The Polar Plunge is a great event where locals raise money for the Special Olympics by jumping into the nearly freezing waters of Lake Tahoe at the end of winter. KRLT’s own General Sales Manager, George Alm, took the plunge while wearing a very interesting outfit! More people than ever showed up to watch George and dozens of other brave souls take the plunge. Thanks to everyone in the community for helping us raise money for this chilling event!
Christmas Lights
In December KRLT & KOWL create a tree with 100 lights on it. Each of the lights represents a local business, if you can match two numbers with the same business name under it, you win a prize from that business. Listeners have a great time taking notes on what lights have been revealed in an attempt to win big!
The 4th of July Fireworks
The largest fireworks show west of the Mississippi river takes place on the South shore of Lake Tahoe and is choreographed to music played on KRLT FM & KOWL AM.
The American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament
Every summer Edgewood golf course in South Lake Tahoe plays host to dozens of celebrities for this annual charity event. KRLT is only local radio station allowed to broadcast from this event and we are proud to feature multiple celebrity interviews.
Back to school at the factory stores at the Y
Every Fall KRLT, KOWL, the Local Kiwanis Club, and the “Factory stores at the Y” team up to give out free backpacks and school supplies to local school kids. This is a fun family event in a carnival like atmosphere at the Y in South Lake Tahoe.
Treat Street
Every Halloween we take over a local motel and fill the rooms with local business so that they can hand out candy to the kids in a safe controlled environment. Thousands of children show up to this Tahoe tradition.
